Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Messiah, the Son of the Most High God. Many of us join in with the traditions of Christmas and Easter, where we celebrate the birth of Jesus or the death and resurrection of Jesus. But, what if we really get to the nitty gritty of things? Do we have a personal knowing of this Jesus? Firstly, do we really believe that He is who He says He is? Do we know Him personally? Is He our Lord and Saviour, our best friend? Do we have a personal heart to heart relationship with Him?
Below we'll look at the first steps that will help start the journey of the most personal and powerful relationship you will ever have in your life.
John 3:16 is the most well known Bible verse in the world. Why? Because this verse sums up God's heart. John 3:16 tells us that God's love for you and me is so enormously great that nothing could stop Him from wanting to reconcile us to Him. Yes you are that valuable! Everyone of us has done things that are wrong, the Bible calls those wrong things sin. The Bible also tells us that we can never do anything good enough to be right in the sight of God, (Romans 3:23, since all have sinned and continue to fall short of God's glory). This is the exact reason we need Jesus. You see Jesus took the punishment we deserved, when He died on the cross (Easter). Jesus made the way so that we could be in a right relationship with God again.
So what do we have to do?
To begin our relationship with Jesus, we need to talk to God. You don't need fancy words or to even go to a special place. Prayer is just talking to God, simple. We need to tell God that we're sorry for the wrong things we've done, acknowledge who He is and what He did for us when He died on the cross, thank Him for dying on the cross and for forgiving us and ask Him to be Lord of our lives, to help us and guide us and to live in us forever. If you prayed and asked Jesus into your life, you can now call yourself a Christian. Congratulations, you are now a child of God and are a part of His family!
Now there are three things that will be helpful for you to do.
#1. Tell someone about your decision. The Bible tell us to confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord! (Romans 10:9, If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ).
#2. Try to attend a Bible based church as often as you can. By going to church we build up friendships with other Christians. This can be encouraging. The Bible calls this edifying each other.
#3. Buy a Bible and read some of it as often as you can. I would suggest you start in the New Testament. Many people try to read a little bit of their Bible each morning and just talk to God. He's interested in everything about you, because He loves you. It's a great way to start the day and the Holy Spirit helps us learn God's ways and how to apply them to our everyday living.
